Description

Synopsis : Theatre is unique in its duality- both as literature and performace. In spaces across the globe, theatre practices echo societal norms and cultural practices which are distinct and unique both in their representation and expression. Dr Ajay Joshi, in his globetrotting stint in the arts, captures some of these practices and brings to fore few that have made a lasting impression in his documentation. They are distinct, unique and path breakers in their own realms. This is a journey that he takes us on , in the personal experiences that he has been engaged with!


About Dr Ajay Joshi : He is a practicing dentist, with a Ph.D in Theatre Criticism, Masters in Journalism and Mass Communication and diploma in Gender and Women’s studies. He has been associated with theatre in India and abroad, for well over two decades, in multiple capacities as a professor, media person, curator, festival organiser, jury, researcher, translator, workshop facilitator, critic, compeer and guide. He has travelled to many countries- USA, Argentina, Istanbul, Tbilisi , Spain, UK, Sri Lanka, Italy amongst others, for theatric activities. He has designed and conducted numerous courses –both for theatre and interdisciplinary, presented theatre related papers in India and abroad , translated plays, and written extensively on theatre and Culture, in local and international publications. He teaches in different institutes, lectures on invite, while being a core group member of various theatre related organisations. He is the recipient of many prestigious awards. He is a published author of 5 books and chapters in numerous books, magazines and journals and has been the recipient of the esteemed Fulbright Fellowship for 2018-19, teaching theatre at Rutgers University, USA. In February 2023, he was awarded the FULBRIGHT ALUMNI AWARD, for his project titled,’ THE SCIENCE AND ARTS NEXUS: EXPLORING ARTS INTERVENTION IN CLASSROOM PEDAGOGY’, which is a work in progress.
